Most people like phone interviews rather than face to face interviews. They seem to think it’s the most relaxed interview, but it’s not. Phone interviews can be both a blessing and a curse. In a phone interview, you will have multiple opportunities to impress the interviewer so that is why Phone Interviews do’s and dont’s matter a lot . Since many individuals are being screened over the phone, a single error or an unsatisfactory answer can get your name scratched off the candidate list.  So here are some things in Phone Interviews do’s and dont’s. You might think that phone interviews are easy to ace it because you talk to your family member and friends through the phone. It’s not as easy as it seems because you don’t know who is interviewing you, and this person literally will decide if you are going to get the job or not.

Don’t answer your calls in your pajamas or bed. Prepare in advance for your phone interview in the same way you would ready yourself for an in-person interview. On the day of your phone interview, make sure you wear clothes that are comfortable and will give you confidence. Then, prepare a quiet place for your interview. Make sure you have a notepad and pen to take notes. 

 Don’t Take the call on Speaker Phone 

It is not a good idea to take calls on the speakerphone. If your phone is on speaker, it is easy to take notes and look at your resume. But it will be hard for the interviewer to hear from you. Don’t risk the chance of being misunderstood. Consider wearing a headset if you want to take notes while you are talking. 

Don’t Multitask 

During your interview, don’t lose focus, try to sit still, and pay attention. Don’t go to make any coffee, eat lunch, or scan through your phone. It wouldn’t be professional, and you don’t want your interviewer to think that you are not interested in the position. It is imperative to research your company beforehand. You shouldn’t research the company during your phone interview. 

Don’t Talk Too Much 

Keep your answers to a minimum, in a face to face interview; it is easy to understand your interviewer’s body language, so it is easy to ramble away through the phone. They might get annoyed if you chopped away their time to interview other candidates. 

Don’t take the call in a public place 

Make time for your interview. Only agree to receive the call a particular time during the day when you are free. Not when you are busy or out with your friends. Phone interviews are the same the face to face interview. 

Do make sure your connection is working properly 

Don’t risk interrupting your relationship with a bad link. If you are using your cell phone, make sure you are in cell coverage areas. Do a test run if you are calling through wifi calling. If you are answering through your landline, all the other devices are on silence. 

Don’t wait to call in 

If they tell you to call them at a particular time, don’t wait for them to call you. Give yourself some time to prepare and get set up. Start dialing the number before it’s your appointed name. Make sure you are ready to take the call before the scheduled time.

Do speak up if you can’t hear

If you can’t heat your hiring manager, don’ be scared to let the person know that you can’t listen to them. The whole time you don’t have to be afraid of asking for them to speak. Because you need to answer them carefully. 

Do take notes

Taking notes will help you reflect on the signs clear certain things on your mind. Also, if they ask you a question which they mentioned, the answer to it will be easy for you to answer that question. 

Do get the interviewer’s email address

The reason you to follow up with specific questions to won’t understand it. Also, you send a thank you card later and ensure the right person sees it.
